1,3-Propanediol

INCI: 1,3-Propanediol - Also known as: Propanediol, Bio-PDO, Zemea

A NOTE ON NAMING

1,3-Propanediol and Propanediol are two accepted INCI names for the same compound. In the three water-based Sweet Chemistry formulas (Hydra-Serum, Hydra-Cream, Lipid-Cream), the ingredient is listed as Propanediol. In the Barrier Repairing Oil-Serum, the same compound appears as 1,3-Propanediol.

The difference is an INCI naming convention, not a formulation difference - both refer to the same bio-fermented, corn-derived glycol.

For the full ingredient profile - including what it is, its bio-fermentation origin, its multi-functional humectant, solvent, and co-preservative roles, and its presence across all four Sweet Chemistry formulas - please refer to the Propanediol page.

SPECIFIC USE IN THE OIL-SERUM

In the Barrier Repairing Oil-Serum, 1,3-Propanediol serves a specific function within the waterless, anhydrous formula. Unlike its role in the water-based formulas (where it acts primarily as a humectant and active solvent), in the Oil-Serum it functions as a solubilizer and dispersant — helping to distribute water-miscible components like Hydrolyzed Cow Bone Extract (Matrikynes® peptides) evenly within the lipid-dominant formula base.

Nourishment - Dry to Combination

Barrier Repairing Oil-Serum 1,3-Propanediol - 1.0 oz / 30 ml

In the Oil-Serum, 1,3-Propanediol supports the even distribution of Matrikynes® peptides and other polar components within the anhydrous lipid base — enabling a 100%-active, waterless formula to deliver its complete active payload consistently with every application.
