What is Myristyl Glucoside?

Myristyl Glucoside is a C14 alkyl polyglucoside (APG) - produced by reacting myristyl alcohol (a C14 fatty alcohol derived from coconut or palm kernel oil) with glucose (from corn or potato starch). It is the second member of the three-APG emulsifier system used in the Barrier Repairing Hydra-Serum, sitting between Lauryl Glucoside (C12) and Polyglyceryl-6 Laurate as part of the natural, plant-derived emulsifier approach used specifically in the serum formula.

Like all APG surfactants, Myristyl Glucoside is non-ionic, biodegradable, plant-derived, and consistently ranks among the mildest surfactant options in comparative irritation assessments. Its C14 chain length gives it a slightly more lipophilic character than Lauryl Glucoside (C12), allowing it to emulsify slightly larger, less polar oil-phase components more effectively. What does it do for skin?
