What does it do for skin?

Its high stearic acid content gives it a skin-identical quality - stearic acid is a naturally occurring component of the skin's own intercellular lipid matrix, meaning shea-derived stearic acid is recognized by the skin's barrier environment rather than sitting as a foreign layer on top of it.

The unsaponifiable fraction of shea - particularly its lupeol and other triterpene content - is studied in connection with a more comfortable skin surface and reduced sensitivity in prone skin types.
